Opening DoorsThe Swedish Chamber Orchestra

Founded in 1995 the Swedish Chamber Orchestra has quickly established itself as one of the most interesting European ensembles, praised for its fresh sound and vital approach. With just 38 members the orchestra retains its intimate identity whilst seeking out new challenges. Alongside the Swedish Chamber Orchestra´s on-going partnership with Music Director, Thomas Dausgaard, the ensemble has also nurtured close ties with Baroque specialist, Andrew Manze, and composer H K Gruber exploring different musical styles and repertoire. The Swedish Chamber Orchestra´s 2007 touring with Thomas Dausgaard included concerts in Amsterdam, Zürich, Dresden, Berlin, Munich, London, Copenhagen and Valencia. In Spring 2008 the ensemble will return to the USA for concerts in New York, Washington DC, Cleveland and the west coast and in Autumn 2008 they will tour Germany and Austria. On CD the orchestra´s acclaimed series of the Complete Beethoven Orchestral Works continues to be released on SIMAX, whilst a new project was recently launched on BIS with recordings of symphonic works by Schumann and Dvorak. With all these strands the Swedish Chamber Orchestra is Opening Doors and taking on new challenges with the vitality that has become their trademark.
