WHO CAN DOES! A FRESH BREEZE FROM THE NORTH
The Münchner Abendzeitung reviews the Salzburg concert and comments "their acclaimed recordings of Schumann and Beethoven have made these three dozen musicians from Sweden into a top tip. They play on modern instruments, are guided in clarity and rhetorical momentum but also achieve authenticity in their sound. In concert such miracles are sometimes a disappointment. Not so with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra at the Salzburg Festival"

RESMUSICA.COM REVIEWS RHEINGAU MUSIC FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE
The French website summarises: "This wildly romantic Schumann, bursting with sap, passion and energy advances so intractably, bursting into  Beethoven paroxysms. Using a simplified classical orchestration (3 basses only!), The conductor has an interpretation which is haughty, triumphant and memorable in Symphony No. 2, which makes any other view of Schumann outdated!"

"IT'S LIKE HAVING A LAYER OF VARNISH REMOVED FROM A MUCH-LOVED PAINTING"
So said the Daily Telegraph of Thomas Dausgaard and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra's new Schubert recording whilst the Financial Times commented "With brisk speeds and clean-cut attacks, he (Dausgaard) gives Schubert a period-style makeover without clamping the music in a straitjacket or making it sound superficial. Far from being a mere stylistic gloss, the result is full of sly insights."

In Germany meanwhile the Rheinische Post exclaimed "Now comes the phenomenal Swedish Chamber Orchestra under Thomas Dausgaard sweeping in with a stormy Baltic Sea Wind ... and blowing through the world of Schubert ... This is not fast for speed's sake, but appears as a dramatic necessity". The Bayerische Rundfunk also paid tribute to the recording's "electrifying drive" and "revolutionary sound" and Denmark's national paper, Politiken, referred to the "sensitive and super precision" of the performance.

BBC RADIO 3
Andrew McGregor plays the first movement of Schubert's Unfinished Symphony and reviews the disc:

"So far the Opening Doors-series has been a refreshing reappraisal of romantic repertoire. The cleanness and clearness of their chamber sized sound and the straight forward discipline of their approach has been seriously attractive from the start ...it's a crisp, clean account that somehow seems to strip away layers of silt to get a clear view of the colours underneath. Another fine recording of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and Thomas Dausgaard from BIS."
