AUSTRIAN DEBUT - NOVEMBER 2008

The Swedish Chamber Orchestra and Thomas Dausgaard conducted their debut tour of Austria in November 2008, with concerts in Vienna and Bregenz for which they were joined by violinist Daniel Hope as soloist in a programme that comprised Beethoven Symphony no. 8, the Mendelssohn violin concerto and Schumann Symphony no. 4 (original version).
The whistlestop tour coincided with the release of their latest BIS CD in the "Opening Doors" series which features Schumann's symphonies nos. 3 & 4 (the later version).

Reviewing the concert in Bregenz's Vorarlberger Nachrichten, Fritz Jurmann wrote:  "This concert became an event. The excellently cast Swedish Chamber Orchestra and its Music Director, 45 year old Dane Thomas Dausgaard, have coalesced  more than 10 years of work together into a fabulous unity.  Without affectations, but rather with a precision and brilliance, Thomas Dausgaard set the course, with a vibrant intensity and intoxicating enthusiasm  which is conveyed itself immediately upon the musicians. A piece of luck!"
